The Cux 87 "Krabbenkutter" {part 23}

      The main mast surely must be dry by now......I thought to myself, as my workweek ended.  I do very little work on it when I have to work.....my days are 12 hours long.  cementing the mast in place was the last thing I had done in my last session with her.  rigging her was next on the agenda.

      The fore stays were the first lines to go on, the mizzen fore stay was the second.  they were tied, then the knots were cemented.  the back stays were next in the order, but a belaying rail for each side had to be made first.  later, a single belaying pin would be cemented into a hole that I had pre-drilled into them during their creation.

      During this process, the anchor rope was started, tying a eye bolt on one end of the rope.  it would then be coiled up in an "oval" shape, and painted {glued} with diluted white glue.  the anchor would be tied on later, and cemented into place.  the belaying rails were also painted and later was threaded onto the back stays, to be positioned and cemented into place.

     here are some shots of the mast tops.

        The anchor was cemented into place, as seen in the last photo.  here is another picture of the anchor.

      The booms were next, and will involve the lines that come from the winch.  you will finally get to see what this baby does!  the top two lines of the winch lines raise and lower the booms.  the two bottom lines operate the net.   the booms had to be cut down to their proper size, re-rounded off and stained.  Once they were ready, they were cemented into place and rigged with the boom lines.

      Tether lines have to installed at this time, to make the boom hoist lines taught and stabilize the booms.  she is listing to the left in the picture above.....from my last bit of fidgeting with it.  I do have to re-string the block at the boom.....the line should come up from the bottom, rather than from the top......to keep with proper line routing.  rigging will continue with my next build session, and perhaps, anything else I can get myself into.

                                                                     AHOY!
